  • Kaleidoscope team members took the afternoon of Thursday, September 10th to don Kaleidoscope gear and volunteer at two of the Freestore Foodbank’s locations to help feed the hungry in our region.

    The Freestore Foodbank of Cincinnati, Ohio is the largest emergency food and services provider in the Tri-State area, providing more than 20 million meals annually over a 20 county region in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. They purchase, solicit and collect donated food from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and government agencies and distribute it to about 260 community partner agencies. The Freestore Foodbank is a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks and food rescue programs.

  • Gerson turned the operation into a public charity and eventually partnered with Steve Gibbs, who became CEO of the Freestore Foodbank. Gerson remained a regular volunteer.

    Today, the Freestore Foodbank is a city staple. Local schools and churches, as well as individual volunteers, organize food drives and events to curb hunger in the city.

    In addition to the familiar Jeff and Darlene Anderson Family building on Central Parkway, the Freestore also operates a distribution center, a customer collection center and “The Giving Fields,” a 10 acre farm that grows fresh produce for area distribution.
