Kidz Bop is a brand of featuring children performing contemporary popular songs. The series was developed by co-founders and in 2001. The albums are composed of popular songs that chart high on the and/or receive heavy airplay from stations several months ahead of each album's release. The songs are performed by the often with lyrics deemed too explicit or suggestive for younger audiences altered to be more family-friendly.
The franchise has sold more than 16 million albums. Since its debut in 2001, KIDZ BOP has expanded significantly to include merchandise, music videos, a live touring division, talent search competitions and the who are the face of the brand. The series continued releasing albums every few months for the rest of the decade. By the time of 2011's , the series emphasized the personalities of the Kidz Bop Kids, which included Steffan, Eva, Elijah, Hannah and Charisma. Along with the expected teen pop fare from , , , and , included more left-of-center picks like 's "Do You Want To?" and 's "Float On" as the series evolved. Along with the regular collections, which were released roughly twice a year, the franchise expanded to include DVDs and collections of oldies, Christmas songs, and Latin pop hits. also developed ring tones, toys, and a clothing line over the next few years. The eleventh Kidz Bop Kids album, which featured a cover of 's "Crazy" as well as renditions of songs by and , emerged in 2007. Other releases in 2007 included Kidz Bop, Vol. 12 and .
